Take a Break

You deserve to “take a break”. Taking a page from Rihanna, it looks like all we do is work, work, work, work, work. When was the last time you recharged your battery? Making time to get away from it all is important, otherwise you will never achieve that “work/ life” balance you’ve always heard about.

Having a passport, was a great investment. It has allowed me to travel abroad, experience different cultures, dial down my senses, and walk slow in the morning. If you don’t take time for you, who else will? Maximize your days off, go to a park, museum, sporting event, even plan a vacation. You know how hard you work, and I know from experience, when you get back, the work will still be there. My only question to you is, “how do you want to take a break?”

Esquire-Sharp Man

The weekend has come and gone,  Esquire & Esquire Network decided to have a pop-up event in NYC.  The atmosphere at 82 Mercer in SoHo featured menswear & lifestyle brands you know, and a few that you will soon discover.  If you’re that guy who wants a customized pair of shoes, or the latest in mens accessories such as overnight bags, to lapel pins, or pocket squares, this was the place to be.

hook & ALBERT

Once the new kids on the block of mens accessories, co-CEO’s Adam Schoenberg & Cory Rosenberg of hook + ALBERT are taking their game to new heights.  Through a collaboration with Cole Haan, you can give your penny loafers some life with a pair of colored tassels.  I love the lapel flowers, and socks, but I was blown away by their latest product, “THE GARMENT WEEKENDER”.  Available in leather and waxed canvas, packing a suit and a few basic essentials, never seemed easier.

Two of the sponsors for this event HARRY’Sand BIRCHBOX were on hand to educate guys on skin care, and offer free haircuts to new and existing customers.  Before reading this, you most likely went to your local CVS or department store to buy razors, shaving cream, or skin care products.  By subscribing to BIRCHBOX, you will receive hand picked samples, that when used correctly will upgrade your look.  Harry’s, takes your average shaving experience to new heights with a product line consisting of blades, custom handles, and shaving cream.  Go against the grain for once, and don’t nick yourself!

After  a long overdue trip to Punta Cana, I’m ready to go back.  But before you plan your trip to sandy beaches and bottomless drinks, make sure you pack accordingly.  My better half wanted to just bring a “carry on” piece of luggage, but I knew better.  For any all-inclusive resorts, you need “TRAVEL FASHION 101”.  Besides the basics, such as your toiletries, plan on bringing at least one pair of sandals, swimming trunks, sunglasses, light weight trousers, a few shirts for your evening festivities, and a pair of driving moccasins.

My best advise for visiting any island this summer, is for the guys to pack your sunscreen and your hat.  99.9% of the guys I saw were wearing hats on the beach.  With the sun, staring you down until 6pm, you will need to keep your head protected, so keep it stylish.

Gifts? What gifts?

Whatever holiday you celebrate, Tis the season for gift giving.  What do you get the guy who has it all?  I found these gifts by Penquin, that any guy can use.  As simple and small as these items look, keeping your shoes shined is putting your best foot forward.  For guys that travel, a Dopp kit “travel bag” is perfect for carrying the basic essentials, making anywhere he stays more hospitable.  In addition to your shaving cream, and toothpaste, your manicure set should squeeze into your Dopp kit.  Last but not least, a flask can be a great gift, when used properly.  On a cold winter night, your favorite cold or warm beverage will keep you from shivering.  For more gift ideas visit http://www.originalpenguin.com

What out the box gift are you searching for this season?

When the leading Menswear trade show MRKET comes to NYC, I always make it a point to check out the up & coming brands which make it into the Vanguard gallery.  One brand that jumped out at me was LAZYJACK PRESS.  This 1yr old company was started by Patrick Ryan and Miriam Zelinsky, two friends that studied law out of Seton Hall.

Starting with neck ties, bow ties, sport shirts,  and pocket squares LJP uses whimsical patterns so that their customers can express their individuality.  Some of their motifs include eagles, money bags, motor boats, and footballs.  While the pocket squares, bow ties, and printed ties are Hermes silk and made in Italy, the company does keep local roots, as their “skinny” ties are made in Brooklyn.

In a crowded menswear environment where retail space is precious real estate, keep your eyes out for LAZYJACK PRESS.
