Hart of Menswear

Welcome to NYFWM. As the fashion world continues to push the seasons faster and faster to retail, NYC once again has the spotlight on it. Hosting NYFWM as well menswear trade shows such as Mrket, ProjectNY, & Capsule, this is the time when new brands and established labels show off their hard work.

The hardest working man this summer has to be David Hart. In addition to his own collection, David collaborated with American manufacturer Hart Schaffner Marx.  Established in 1887, HSM continues to evolve it’s tailored clothing. Inspired by pictures taken by Slim Aarons, Hart incorporates textured fabrics, double breasted suits, and floral trousers to make wearers feel as if they were visiting the French Riviera.

David Hart’s personal collection, brings out the laid back vibe of Southern California.  With a Beach Boys inspired show, the tailored pieces were highlighted by a yellow & black Samoan/ tiki print tuxedo. Solid color & floral shorts as well as color blocked polos & knit tops were key looks for the Sportswear collection.  Although this collection showcased Spring / Summer 17′, the airbrushed tees are available now.

What do you get when you blend friends & family with tacos & tequila? Answer…..a great engagement party. I made a few calls and asked for a non humid sunny Saturday, and no one was disappointed. As you know, planning a wedding is a piece of cake.  Having a long loving marriage, that’s when you have to roll up your sleeves and put in the work.

With my fiancé going with an all white ensemble and gold crown, I went with a made to measure suit from Hickey Freeman. Loved the plaid print when I saw the swatch, and decided that a three-piece suit would be great to have. The fabric was an earth tone color with a hint of grey and blue, and wore a solid white spread collar shirt. When wearing a suit with a pattern, you want to wear a solid color shirt, otherwise the two patterns fight each other, and look too busy.

When choosing my shoes and accessories, I went with the chestnut color brogue lace up shoe with matching belt and leather pilot watch. Since my mentor was the “bowtie King”, I went with one that was bold enough to stand out and complimented the suit.

NYC- Botanical Gardens

When most people think of NYC, usually the images of the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, and Central Park come to mind.  With Spring finally arriving, and a quick ride on the Bronx River Pkwy, we decided to explore the Botanical Gardens.  If you are a native New Yorker, and have only been to the Bronx to see the Yankees, you are missing out.

I may not be a horticulturist, but I can appreciate lush landscapes, trees as tall as buildings and older than 100 years old.  If you decide to visit, the Mertz Library is a great place to explore, and will bring out the botanist in you.  The 250 acres of trees and flowers can be used to educate kids, and celebrate unions as they have locations on the grounds for weddings or parties.  During our visit, we stumbled upon a wine tasting.   It’s not a wine tasting in NYC, if there isn’t a long line. Luckily there were multiple vendors to keep the public happy, and a band to entertain.

Although NYC is home to many attractions, we should not forget about the local flavor that makes NYC what it is.  No matter where you live, there has to be a museum or a park that can distract you from your technology.  What plans do you have for your weekend?

Vegas Pt. 2

So what do you bring to Vegas if you plan on laying poolside all day? With the weather hotter than NYC, I decided to bring lightweight clothes that I can change out of by the pool, but still feel relaxed in, while walking back and forth through the hotel. Although Vegas isn’t humid, you still want to dress loose and relaxed as every hotel has climate controlled temps inside.

Staying at the Aria hotel, hanging out by the pool is an experience in itself. If you want to sun bathe all day, get there at 9am to get a good seat or cabana. With several pools to choose from, we decided to camp out at SKY POOL. It’s $50 a person to get into that pool area, but the chairs, cabanas, and service were that much better.

When not swimming like Nemo or Michael Phelps, you would find me eating, reading a book, or working on my tan. What I most enjoyed about the pool area was the in house music being played, great mix that didn’t just play EDM all day.

Should you visit, there is another pool area that has a club like atmosphere called Liquid. Picture any MTV party you’ve seen on TV, and that’s what you’ll see there.

Vegas Pt. 1

Do you like to travel?  Las Vegas has to be one place on your bucket list to check off.  Just my second trip to this Southwest patch of America that attracts all types of visitors.  Everyone should celebrate at least one birthday in Las Vegas, why not a milestone.

With so many places to stay, the Aria hotel & casino became my home on “The Strip”.  With the weather fluctuating between day and night, I decided to pack clothes that would keep me cool when either by the pool, having dinner, or at a club.  If you ever plan on visiting, gambling can be found anywhere, so choose a hotel / casino that will deliver the best service experience.

Although we won a few hands and lost a few, a great trip it was, and we’ll be back. Do you like to travel?, where do you plan on going this year?

One of the best things about an early morning flight out of JFK International Airport is watching the sun rise. Everyone should travel if they have the opportunity, it’s a great experience.  I could think of worst places to be, but if I’m going to work, Playa del Carmen in Mexico isn’t a bad place to work.

My group stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba, a resort with 240 acres of tropical forest and a fantastic beach.  Although working most of my stay, we did get to enjoy the restaurants, poolside service, and complimentary bikes to ride the numerous trails.

With my mid winter excursion done, it’s back to NYC for a snowstorm. Like Arnold said in the Terminator “I’ll be back”.

Hello 2016

Tuxedo jacket, trousers, shirt, bowtie, shoes by HUGO BOSS

Eyewear by SALT Optics

Socks by RALPH LAUREN

Whether you want to celebrate the end of the year, or beginning of a new one, everyone loves a good party.  Since every lounge or restaurant was having an event to usher in the New Year, we settled on Tosca Marquee in the Bronx.

As a newly engaged couple, my fiancé should always get top billing, so I chose to wear all black except for my socks.   She wore a great dress that was silver one minute, then when I touched it, turned black.  Love how most of the night she’s in black heels, then turns around to wear silver flats.  Guys don’t have that luxury.

No matter who you enjoyed your New Year with, hope you looked good and had fun.
